Togo

Pastor White visited and preached at Pilgrim's Baptist today. He asked us to pray for a pastor in a small church in Lassa Bas. He also wants to learn Kabye which along with French are the most popular languages in northern Togo.

Jim White is in the process of building a church. He asks for prayer because they just finished 15 benches and need more funds to complete the church building. He is considering building another church about an hour from where he is. 'A bridge collapsed on the road running north and south. And we can not get diesel or gas. This greatly hinders our work.' Please Pray!

Togo has been an adventure over the last several months, and I would like to share just a couple of them with you. July, there was a group of four men who came to visit Togo and to see the works. It was such a privilege for me to spend two weeks with them traveling the country side and showing them how God is working.
The past spring we learned that one of the village churches north of Dapaong had about 1/6th of its roof ripped off in a horrible wind storm. I drove up to assess the damage and ended up only being able to patch the job until we had all the necessary items to fix it correctly. By July, all the pieces had been assembled in Dapaong, the majority of them having to be trucked up country from the Capital which is at least ten hours away. We spent three days working on disassembling the damaged portion and then welding up the new girders before attaching the tin. In the evenings we had the privilege of setting up a projector and showing the Jesus Film. For many this was the first time they had ever seen a film and for all it was the first time they had ever seen the vivid story of Christ's sacrifice on a big screen. It was such a success. The group and I had been praying that God would do something amazing in the villages where we showed the film, and God saw fit to bring some folks to Him.
While in Dapaong we also got to witness a baptismal service out at a local lake that is thought to have fresh water crocodiles. Sixteen folks had received Christ and were prepared for baptism. Over that weekend we had the privilege of witnessing God's saving some, some following Christ in Believer's baptism, and also a baby dedication. It's interesting because the African names ar not anything like Anglo-Saxon names, but when a Christian has a child most often times at the baby dedication, the parents will ask the pastor or missionary to donate a 'Christian' name for their Child. On this particular day, he was given the name of Philip.
Continue to pray for us if you will. We have seen fifty benches constructed, and we have some more funds coming in to finish off another church building. However, two more have risen up to take their places. Also, Randy and I had begun to speak of building another church building about an hour from where we live in Kara. There is a local church out there which was started by a Bible Institute graduate. The church has been meeting in a mud block, cement coated building for years, and it's time to get them into something more permanent. However, we had a bridge collapse on the only road running north to south in the country and our town is effectively without diesel or gas. This obviously hinders our work not only with this church build but with everything else.
In closing, I would like to thank you all for your interests, concerns, and faithful prayers for the work here in Togo.
